From foraging trips to jam sessions and ice cream, Buncombe County has lots of fun events coming up in August!
Foraging Tour
Join No Taste Like Home for three hours “off the eaten path” as they uncover the Garden of Eden all around us: edible greens, berries, mushrooms, flowers, nuts, roots… you never know what you might find in your backyard!
Wander through fields and forests, foraging ten to twenty wild foods, focusing on the ones you might find in your own woods or backyard. Then you get to eat what you’ve found! After your foraging session, you can either learn to cook your finds or let one of three award-winning restaurants prepare it for you to accompany a lunch or dinner for free! We like to call it find dining. Use code “wineberry24” to take 10% off! Email info@notastelikehome.org to schedule your class today!
Old-Time Jam at Turgua Brewing
Join us on the 1st Tuesday of each month for an Old-Time Jam led by Marc Rudow. This open jam is inclusive of all skill levels and is family friendly. Grab a delicious local beer and listen to some fun tunes or bring your favorite instrument and get in on the fun! The jam session runs from 5:30pm – 7:00pm.
Dark City Poets Society Workshop Circle
Dark City Poets Society is a completely free poetry group that is open to writers of all ages and experience levels. Join us at the Black Mountain Library from 6:00pm – 7:30pm on the first Tuesday of every month for our respectful feedback group. This group is free to join! Just bring your notebook and listen to fellow writers share their work, struggles, and inspiration. We meet in the garden when the weather permits. Contact Melisa Pressley at melisa.pressley@buncombecounty.org for more information.
16th Annual Asheville Comedy Festival
The 16th Annual Asheville Comedy Festival features the most diverse lineup of comedians in the country, showcasing various different stand ups on every showcase. No two shows are the same and feature 8 performers each! The event is held on August 8th, 9th, and 10th from 6:00pm and 8:30pm at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts. The festival creates a joyous atmosphere for comedy enthusiasts. Beyond entertainment, it serves as a platform for the rising stars of the comedy world to connect with industry professionals through workshops and networking events. The festival’s success the last 16 years is undeniable and continues to be Asheville’s most eclectic event and Asheville’s best spent entertainment dollar.
Ice Cream Social
Diatribe Brewing Company is hosting an Ice cream social from 4:00pm – 9:00pm on August 10th! Indulge in creamy, dreamy vegan ice cream cones while supporting Farmshire Sanctuary! Bring your friends, family, and doggos for an evening of sweet treats and giving back. Your $15 donation gets you a vegan ice cream cone. There will also be Pup Cups for your furry friends. Need more than just ice cream? Mean Mandy’s Foodtruck @meanmandystruck will be here to satisfy your cravings for something more savory. Cheers to great beer, delicious ice cream, and making the world a better place—one scoop at a time!
