For Kate Stone, a house is more than what you see when you walk through the front door. She sees what it can become.

Kate has spent much of her life creating homes. Over the years, she has renovated and built houses in communities ranging from the Ozarks of Missouri to the mountains of Vermont, the Piedmont of North Carolina and now Brevard. Along the way she has designed kitchens, reconfigured floor plans, sourced everything from flooring and cabinets to windows and trim, and worked hands-on with a small team of carpenters and a network of skilled tradespeople. That experience has given Kate an unusual ability to look beyond a home’s current condition and envision its potential. Kate has a particular affection for older homes and the stories they tell. She appreciates their character, craftsmanship and history, while also enjoying the challenge of making an older home work beautifully for modern life. But a newer home can have its own story, and she enjoys discovering their potential as well.

Her practical experience extends beyond the house itself. Having lived in the country for much of her life, Kate is familiar with wells and septic systems and the realities of maintaining rural properties. She understands the difference between a project that looks daunting and one that is genuinely impractical, and she isn’t afraid to tell a buyer what she sees. Kate came to real estate to work alongside a longtime friend and experienced Looking Glass Realty broker. She brings a fresh perspective to the profession, backed by years of hands-on experience with houses, renovation and design.

She first came to Brevard in 2020 after living in Vermont. A lifelong admirer of small-town life and mountain landscapes, she was looking for a place to put down roots. For Kate, a true small town is reflected in its defined downtown and the strong sense of community that grows around it—and Brevard has both. Kate believes that the homes we create become part of our legacy. She hopes to help her clients find the right place to create theirs.
