Historic Montford Neighborhood

It is also walking distance to Downtown Asheville and the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Located north of Asheville is Historic Montford Neighborhood. It is the first of three local historic districts to come under the jurisdiction of the Historic Resources Commission of Asheville and Buncombe County. The neighborhood is made up of about 300 acres with over 600 buildings constructed between the 1890s and 1920s. Homes and buildings represent the rich architectural styles of Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, and Neoclassical, produced mostly by architect Richard Sharp Smith.

Today, Montford is home to the Asheville Visitor’s Center, several lively shops, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, and businesses. It is also walking distance to Downtown Asheville and the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Every year, the community welcomes the public to their classical play performances in the park, music & arts festivals, self-guided holiday home tours, and more.
