Woodfin is a charming township located along the banks of the French Broad River, just four miles north of Asheville proper.
Built on a manufacturing economy, this small community dates back to the mid 19th century. Driving through Woodfin, you’ll see structures characteristic of 20th century mill villages – buildings that emptied out during the nation-wide slowdown of the manufacturing sector in the 70’s and 80’s and were then revitalized in the mid 90’s. Today, you’ll find many local Asheville businesses thriving here, from Spiritex organic clothing to AvL Technologies. Well-respected Asheville artists also rent warehouse space in Woodfin, working beside their manufacturing neighbors with equal industry.
Woodfin is a quick five mile drive from Downtown Asheville, making the community an ideal location for people who work in the city but prefer a short commute that provides a little distance from the busyness of tourism and the downtown life. In general, the community offers more affordable real estate than other areas in Asheville, which makes it attractive to first time homebuyers and young families as well. Select homes offer mountain views.
Residents enjoy access to North Asheville shopping and to the new Reynolds Mountain planned community, which offers an array of local restaurants, a variety of business services, and a state of the art YMCA wellness Center. The French Broad River Academy, an independent middle school that combines outdoor education with rigorous academics, also finds its home here.
Last but not least, Woodfin boasts awesome river parks that serve as launching points for tubing and whitewater rafting. The Silver-Line Park, a new $3.2 million park, broke ground in April of 2020, and in recent years, the town unveiled ambitious plans for The Woodfin Greenway, five miles of ten foot greenway trails that will connect to a larger urban trail network through Asheville.
