Ballroom Dance Group Lessons and Social Dancing – Mondays at 7 PM

Head to the DFR Lounge located at 44 East Main Street in Brevard for an hour of ballroom dance lessons, followed by social dancing! The cost to attend is $20 and this event is held every Monday.

Angler Entomology with Guide Patrick Weaver – Saturday, April 5 from 9AM to 1PM

This course teaches you how to select a fly to match what the trout are eating. The course will be a combination of classroom and practical field sampling focusing on insect hatches that produce selective feeding. In the classroom, you will learn about the “five seasons” and the active insects during each season. In addition, you will learn the conditions for each season, when to fish, and what type of water to focus on. One will also learn about the types of flies for various hatch stages how to select flies to best match the hatch and how to present them. On the river, you will learn sampling techniques and collect information to identify hatches. Each participant will receive a copy of The Hatches of Pisgah Forest for reference.

*This class is the second of a two part series. Although not required, it is recommended that you take Selecting a Fly in conjunction with this class. Prerequisites Recommended: Selecting a Fly

Rock Climbing Introduction 2-Day Course – April 12 and 13 from 10AM – 5PM

This course is designed to provide you with competence and confidence in ropes and basic rock climbing skills. It covers all skills beginning climbers should learn including proper gear and how it should be rigged, belaying and rappelling techniques, knots, prussic knots, and climbing techniques.
The second day goes into natural and artificial anchor building for top rope set up. This program also allows for a sufficient amount of climbing time to gain additional climbing experience. Accommodations not provided. Click here for more information!

Ghost Wrestling Challenge – April 12 and April 13 at 9AM

The Ghost Wrestling Challenge, hosted at Brevard High School, is a premier two-day wrestling tournament designed for boys and girls from kindergarten through 12th grade. This highly competitive event brings together wrestlers from across the region to test their skills in both individual and team formats. The first day features an intense individual tournament where athletes compete in their respective weight classes, battling for championships. On the second day, the competition shifts to a team-based format, emphasizing strategy, camaraderie, and collective effort as schools and clubs face off in dual-style matchups. With a well-organized structure, high-level competition, and a commitment to sportsmanship, the Ghost Wrestling Challenge promises an exciting and memorable experience for wrestlers, coaches, and fans alike.

Outdoor Bluegrass Jam and Community Potluck – Saturdays from 2 PM to 4 PM

From the Cedar Mountain Canteen: This jam will cater to musicians who love Bluegrass music, in its traditional and non-trad styles. We will focus on songs that feature vocal melodies, harmonies and instrumental breaks. Typical instrumentation includes guitars, banjos, mandolins, resophonic guitars (Dobros), fiddles, and a bass, but we welcome other instruments like the dulcimer, ukulele, harmonica and autoharp, too. *This is a ZERO WASTE event, so bring what you need from home!*
