Earlier this week, the Saluda Grade Trails Conservancy announced that they have officially entered into a contract to purchase the 31-mile rail corridor. This marks a significant milestone in the development of the Saluda Grade Trail, which will pass through some of the most beloved towns in Western North Carolina. This trail promises to transform outdoor recreation opportunities, breathing new life into these communities and supporting the growth of small businesses. By fostering a happier, healthier environment, it also paves the way for similar projects to come to fruition in the future.
“We see this trail as a huge asset for our local communities—a place where kids can play safely, where it’s easy to get outside and exercise, where people of all abilities can enjoy the outdoors. It’s an amenity that will strengthen local businesses so they can offer more opportunities for the people who live here.” – Kieran Roe Executive Director of Conserving Carolina
The trail is set to travel from Inman through Campobello, Landrum, Tryon, Saluda, and finally Zirconia, offering a picturesque route for enjoying all your favorite recreational activities like walking, running, biking, and more. Although an exact timeline has yet to be established, this first step represents a crucial move forward in making the vision of the Saluda Grade Trail a reality. As the project progresses, it is expected to draw both locals and visitors alike, creating a deeper connection to the natural beauty of the region and enhancing the vitality of the communities along the way. The excitement surrounding this trail is already palpable, and its potential impact on the area’s recreational and economic landscape is undeniable.
