Saluda’s 61st Annual Coon Dog Day!

Here’s a little history of the biggest event in our beloved Saluda, NC.
In 1949, the Blue Ridge Coon Club, which was later renamed The Blue Ridge Coon Dog Association, was organized by George Johnson. The club was created to support the replenishment of the depleting raccoon population in the surrounding areas. They sold barbecue plates for $1 at their annual fundraisers. In 1963, the club decided to create a parade in honor of this cause, which we now call Coon Dog Day. Over the years, the festivities have grown to include food, dancing, races, and other fun activities for both adults and children.

Event Highlights Include:
8:00 AM: Saluda Elementary School 5K Fun Run – Start and finish on Main St. Sign-up required.
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM: Vendors open with a shuttle service from public parking on Howard Gap Rd.
11:00 AM: Coon Dog Day Parade
12:30 PM: ★ Every Dog’s a Star Show ★ – A fun contest and fundraising event for all dogs.
1:30 PM: Firefighter Agility Contest – Showcasing the skills and agility of our brave firefighters.
2:30 PM: AKC Sanctioned Coonhound Dog Show at Saluda School Ball Field – Same-day registration available.
5:00 PM: Shagging in the Park with Jack Roper and the Weatherman Band – Dance the evening away with classic beach shag dancing.
7:00 PM: Square Dancing Under the Stars – Enjoy traditional square dancing in a picturesque outdoor setting.

With their retro-soul, New Orleans brass music, and Americana blend, Hustle Souls brings energy and spontaneity to every venue they play. Blues town Music described this five-piece, Asheville-based band as “intimate soul…with a Curtis Mayfield-like warmth.” Music Connection Magazine listed them as one of the “Hot 100 Live Unsigned Artists & Bands.”
Balancing this jubilant brass with strings and three-part vocal harmony are Billy Litz (keys, acoustic guitar, trumpet, vocals), Jonathan Taylor (bass, vocals), Kevin Scott (drums, vocals), Justice Mann (trombone), and Reid Parler (electric guitar).

The Saluda Downtown Foundation is excited to bring back the Top Of The Grade concerts this summer! Join us at The Ella Grace Mintz Stage in McCreery Park, downtown Saluda, for an evening of fantastic music and fun.
Be sure to order a pickup from your favorite downtown restaurant, bring a picnic to the park, and enjoy the tunes and vibrant atmosphere.

Second Saturday Saluda Art Stroll

This Spring the Saluda Art Alliance was formed. Made up of nine of our local artists and their store-fronts. On the second Saturday of every month those nine store-fronts will be hosting an Art Stroll down the Historic Street of Downtown Saluda. Enjoy an opportunity to meet the artists, new artwork, and refreshments. Immerse yourself in this vibrant art community!
