Saluda’s 61st Annual Coon Dog Day!

Saturday, July 6th, 2024

Here’s a little history of the biggest event in our beloved Saluda, NC.

In 1949, the Blue Ridge Coon Club, which was later renamed The Blue Ridge Coon Dog Association, was organized by George Johnson. The club was created to support the replenishment of the depleting raccoon population in the surrounding areas. They sold barbecue plates for $1 at their annual fundraisers. In 1963, the club decided to create a parade in honor of this cause, which we now call Coon Dog Day. Over the years, the festivities have grown to include food, dancing, races, and other fun activities for both adults and children.

Come celebrate Saluda’s history with us!

Event Highlights Include:

8:00 AM: Saluda Elementary School 5K Fun Run – Start and finish on Main St. Sign-up required.

9:00 AM – 5:00 PM: Vendors open with a shuttle service from public parking on Howard Gap Rd.

11:00 AM: Coon Dog Day Parade

12:30 PM: ★ Every Dog’s a Star Show ★ – A fun contest and fundraising event for all dogs.

1:30 PM: Firefighter Agility Contest – Showcasing the skills and agility of our brave firefighters.

2:30 PM: AKC Sanctioned Coonhound Dog Show at Saluda School Ball Field – Same-day registration available.

5:00 PM: Shagging in the Park with Jack Roper and the Weatherman Band – Dance the evening away with classic beach shag dancing.
